Training of Dipl.-Ing. Wolf­gang DI W. Grass­berger

At the Technical University of Vienna I obtained my diploma as a chartered engineer in Industrial Electronics and Control. Fascinated by the first Apple II computers, I also followed many lectures in computer science.

Later on I was able to draw on my early knowlege in Pascal while implementing production line control algorithms. On behalf of the Institue of Mechanics I tutored fellow students in statics. This involvement in mechanical engineering came very handy for my later job as design leader.

My employer Semperit Reifen AG offered a post-graduate study in rubber technology at the Leibnitz University in Hannover, Germany.

Polyers have fascinating properties on the borderline of solids and liquids. Their theory overlaps chemistry, physics and mechanics. This course is a unique opportunity to get a good grasp on the basics of this specialty.

Understanding visco-elastic behaviour of high-molecular weight polymers helped a lot in developing control software for a fast-paced splicer, but also in designing production lines for the tire industry.

This background was a solid foundation for my work in chemical plant design as well, such as e.g. coping with exothermal polyerisation.

In order to widen my horizon beyond technical topics I undertook a two-year study in Klagenfurt, Austria towards an MBA in Finance Management.

Financial mathematics and investment calculations came in quite handy when I led the turn-key development of a production side in Thailand.

Starting with a week-long repetition, all European safety regulation for OEM and employers alike are updated in four-yearly intervalls.

Having passed resp. exam, I may carry the title of a Certified Machinery Safety Expert – CMSE®.

Having learned constitutional law at the Technical University of Vienna, I took the Chamber's introductory courses, to prepare for the state exam as a Ziviltechniker.

I was sworn in to abide by the guild's obligations before the provincial government of Lower Austria. I am thereby entitled to act as a person of public trust.
